Product Checklist

SharpBrains* has created a 10-point product evaluation checklist to help people determine whether the program they are considering meets "world's best practice" standards.

Click here to download the checklist which explains why these questions are important.

In this section you will see how Navon's products meet these high standards by the answers to the questions that need to be considered.

1. Are there scientists, ideally neuropsychologists, and a scientific advisory board behind the program?

The CogniFit team of experts includes cognitive psychologists amongst a multi-disciplinary team that works together toward bringing more people ever improved products, for a better way of life.

CogniFit grew out of the life-long work of renowned cognitive psychologist, Professor Shlomo Breznitz. During the course of his distinguished career, he became fascinated with the growing evidence of brain plasticity - the brain's ability to develop and change throughout the lifecycle.

Through extensive research he developed the concept of cognitive vitality as the key to maintaining a high quality of life.

From his investigations and research, Professor Breznitz realized that cognitive training can impact very specific day-to-day skills. Armed with this understanding, he established CogniFit in 1999 with its first product - DriveFit™.

2. Are there published, peer-reviewed scientific papers in PubMed written by those scientists? How many?

Yes, there is a multitude of published, peer-reviewed scientific papers, and are freely available to you in the case studies and research section of our website. In March this year MindFit's Ichilov study clinical trial results were announced. For the first time a double-blind clinical trial showed that computer-based training improves the cognitive functions of the 50-plus crowd.

In addition the programs have been the recipient of several industry awards including:

  • The 2007 ASA Business and Ageing Award,
  • The 2007 Consumer Health World Award, and the
  • The 2003 Prince Michael Road Safety Award.

If you would like to be kept up to date with new studies as and when they become available then please feel welcome to sign-up for our newsletter now.

3. What are the specific benefits claimed for using this program?

MindFit™ was created specifically for baby boomers and seniors as fitness center for their minds,” said Prof. Shlomo Breznitz, Ph.D., founder and president of CogniFit, Ltd. “Our products are designed to help people get – and stay – mentally sharp to preserve their quality of life and independence when they age. Beyond MindFit™ we also have products to help boomers and seniors assess and sharpen their cognitive skills for driving and MindFit™ Back-on-Track helps women recuperate from the effects of breast cancer chemotherapy ‘fog.’

In scientific studies which evaluated brain improvement it was found that MindFit™ users improved:

  • Reaction time improved 12.5%
  • Short-term memory improved 18.0%
  • Memory Recall improved 14%
  • Eye-hand coordination improved 16.5%

DriveFit™ is another award winning CogniFit technology, which assesses and builds cognitive, psychomotor and personality skills needed by novice, senior and fleet drivers. DriveFit™ won the 2003 Prince Michael Road Safety Award in the U.K.

In scientific study evaluating the improvements in cognitive skills associated with driving it was found that Golden DriveFit™ users improved:

  • Reaction time improved 12.5%
  • Short-term memory improved 18.0%
  • Visual scanning improved 30.0%
  • Eye-hand coordination improved 16.5%

N.B. as you navigate through this site you will note that each product has a list of the specific benefits to the user.

4. Does the program tell me what part of my brain or which cognitive skill I am exercising, and is there an independent assessment to measure my progress?

Yes, with each different task in the MindFit™ family of products you will be informed which specific cognitive skill is being trained and how that skill is useful to you in daily life.

Likewise with the DriveFit™ family of products where you will be informed which specific cognitive skill is being trained and how that cognitive skill relates to enhanced driving abilities and road safety.

With the exception of our budget/entry level product TaskFit, both our MindFit™ and DriveFit™ family products have assessment programs - separate to the exercise programs - that provide an accurate measurement of your progress.

Separating assessment exercises from training exercises is critical. It ensures that the feedback you receive is accurate, objective, and free of any statistical bias that may occur due to the natural improvement a user may make just by being more familiar with the training exercise.

5. Is it a structured program with guidance on how many hours per week and days per week to use it?

For most of our products it is recommended that users train 3 sessions per week, for 20 minutes per session.

The exception being MindFit™ Corporate, which, according to the demands of the working environment, is designed to be used daily for 5 – 10 minutes per session.

6. Do the exercises vary and teach me something new?

Yes, all of the products have an extensive range of exercises that enhance a broad range of cognitive skills.

Our unique patented Individualised Training System (ITS) custom designs your own unique personal training program, carefully suited to your skills and needs. The ITS system is extremely adaptive, based on your daily abilities it can recognize when the outside environment is affecting your performance (e.g. you are tired that day), and can alter the degree of difficulty back to your threshold of ability.

No two sessions are alike!

7. Does the program challenge and motivate me, or does it feel like it would become easy once I learned it?

Advanced software follows your learning curve. As you improve, the software evolves with more challenging brain exercises. Never too difficult and never too easy, it presents you with just the right level of challenge for you.

There is also a personal coach function to help motivate you and give you additional feedback.

8. Does the program fit my personal goals?

We have different products for different requirements and they all are designed to exercise your brain for peak cognitive performance and to maintain long-term brain health.

9. Does the program fit my lifestyle?

The MindFit™ program comes in a CD-ROM version that is suitable for users without broadband internet access, and in the 1st Quarter of 2009 we will be introducing the MindFit™Online version which will allow even greater flexibility and access.

The DriveFit™ and TaskFit family of products can already be accessed via the internet.

10. Am I ready and willing to do the program, or would it be too stressful?

Our programs are a stress management solution. Studies have proven that engaging in our exercises help release dopamine, so you will feel better – naturally.

The programs adapt your own threshold of ability and have also been designed to be extremely user friendly, no prior computer experience is necessary.
